2010 LIFT Digital Media and Marketing Internship
For a fixed term of 4 months, I joined the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT) organisational team as the digital media and marketing intern in the lead up to the LIFT 2010 Festival, consisting of 93 performances by 21 artist companies at 11 venues over 4 weeks.
•I maintained the festivals online presence through its own website of up to 140 pages (www.liftfestival.com) and social media including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. I continuously updated online content throughout the festival.
•I used a webmatrix to create event pages and blogs. I inputted copy forwarded to me from LIFTs departments, artist companies, venues, funding partners, and media/press, and my own copy all according to LIFT house style. I worked with HTML coding to format copy, link the website internally for easy navigation, and embed external links. I ensured continuity of brand awareness, logos and credits in all online presence. I created a LIFT/arts sector RSS aggregator of arts and related current affairs to update office staff. I recorded, edited and uploaded audio, video and photographic material using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Apple Mac editing software.
•As an additional piece of freelance work for the LIFT Participation Team, I formatted a print and electronic report on the potential of the LIFT Living Archive as a public resource in respect of contemporary theatre practice, based upon work by Dr Caomihe McAvinchey at Queens Marys University of London.
•I formulated a project proposal for LIFT and Goldsmiths Library Special Collections Team who house and maintain the LIFT archive for an electronic indexing system which will incorporate relevant material from the festivals back catalogue into the current website. This will be called LIFTed from the Archive and feature in the LIFT 2012 Festival.
2006 2010 Performance Art / Curation
Since my graduation I have continued my arts practice, progressing from movement based performance to creating theatrical installations. My largest project to date was 'the welcoming party' for Shame goes Girly in July 2009 where I produced an scenographic installation involving 11 performers for the foyer space at the O2 Academy Brixton, London, commissioned by Olivier Award Winning Duckie Ltd. Most recently I curated performance for a Piano Lounge space at Gross Indecency, a pre gay liberation style nightclub by Duckie Ltd in July 2010. My other projects include:
• 'When I get a headache I worry that I'll die.' A solo performance commissioned by Oliver Frost and Marc Massive for ACTART7 (London. November 2009).
• in grotesque technicolour. A choreographed durational work for 6 performers commissioned by Duckie Ltd (London. December 2008).
• blood sports lounge. A durational installation for the GayShame event commissioned by Duckie Ltd (London. July 2008).
• the camera moved before it had stilled. A collaboration with dancer Janine Harrington and lighting designer Lucy Hansom for the Resolution! Festival at The Place Theatre (London. January 2008).
• ive been places Ive never visited. A promenade dance work for two performers commissioned by The Light Surgeons for Articulated, an exhibition for Nokia N Series (London. December 2006).
2005 2010 Freelance Stylist
Alongside and between retail sector jobs, I worked as a stylist for artist promotion, fashion editorial, film and runway presentation, including:
•Vogue Japan, SS10 beauty story, photographer Sølve Sundsbø (May 2010).
•Dansk, assistant/stylist for fashion director Toby Grimditch (2008 2010).
•Sandy Powell/Oliver Garcia, historical costume research for feature film 'Medieval' (working title), director Rob Cohen (August 2009).
•Rufus Wainwright, Rules and Regulations promotional music video, director Petro Kauffman (May 2007).
•JW Anderson, Menswear and accessories lines (April 2007).
July Sept 2009 Wanchor Magazine Contributions Editor
To coincide with the runway presentation MAN during London Fashion Week September 2009, I worked with JW Anderson and Toby Grimditch in creating Wanchor Magazine. My role was to organise and edit contributions and work closely with the graphics team in formatting artists' work into an A3 magazine which folded out into an A0 poster print. The magazine was an opportunity for established and up-and-coming talent to showcase their work side by side and present a rounded view on current movements in creative fashion. I worked with established contributors such as Alex Sainsbury (photographer, iD Magazine), Carlotta Manaigo (photographer, V Magazine), Richard Gray (writer, 10 Magazine) and Anders Sølvsten-Thomsen (stylist, LOVE Magazine), alongside new talents Nicolas Ripoll (photographer), Robert William Eaton (stylist) and Sam Cotton (illustrator).
2007 2009 Twosee Co-Manager / Manager
From November 2007 to November 2008, I co-managed the daily running of the store whose focus was to promote new design to the London Fashion scene and act as a launch platform for designers including JW Anderson, Jean-Pierre Braganza and Hannah Martin. I dealt with Visual Merchandising through sales reports and invoicing, curated in-store events, arranged press and promotional launches, and maintained the store's press relationships and online presence and sales through FarFetch.com. In November 2008 I was appointed as sole Manager.
Feb 2007 Nov 2007 Liberty plc Sales Assistant
I worked within the women's international collections and liaised with the sales representatives of the store's main luxury brands. I maintained the Dries Van Noten in-house visual merchandising style and was given in-depth product knowledge to cascade on to other Liberty employees. I also assisted with department administration, brand and client correspondence, and acted as a personal shopper for a number of valued clients.
2005 2006 Tiger of Sweden Sales & Style Assistant
I worked at the UK flagship Floral Street store. In addition to my sales & customer style assistant role, I was appointed as store merchandiser and dealt with enquiries from the press and public regarding the Tiger of Sweden brand and aesthetic. I maintained the press collection, and organised sponsorship and styling for high profile clients, including the Kaiser Chiefs at the Brit Awards 2006 and other events.
